CLOTHING
Tijuana is a cosmopolitan city with doors wide open for tourism and business.
Typically, dress is casual and comfortable, and related to the purpose of
your visit. Certain nightclubs and restaurants do have dress restrictions,
so call ahead to check if you are in doubt about what is appropriate. The
weather can get hot in Tijuana, but bring a sweater or light jacket for
cool days or nights, especially in the winter.
SHOPPING
Business hours are from 10am to 9pm in most stores, and almost all stores
are open on Sundays.
RESTAURANTS
The hours of operation of restaurants vary, depending on the type of restaurant.
Most are open from 12pm to 12:30am. Those serving breakfast are open earlier.
To be safe, call the restaurant for their hours.
BUSINESS
Generally, business hours are from 9am to 7pm. Banks are open from 9am to
1:30 pm. Some banks open again from 4pm to 6pm. Some banking services, such
as currency and check exchanges, are provided only in the morning from 9am
to 1:30pm.
TIPPING
Mexico is a country where tips are expected, as in many other countries.
In hotels and restaurants, tips are absolutely required. In restaurants,
a 15% tip is customary. In hotels, tips for bellboys are usually based on
the number of pieces of luggage they handle. In other situations, tips are
given at your discretion. Taxis do not require a tip, except for a special
tour or service.
TAXES
A Value Added tax of 10% is usually included in the price of goods
and services, with the exception of hotel rates.
N$ CURRENCY
Throughout Mexico, the currency in use is the New Mexican Peso (N$). The
exchange rate changes daily, is fairly stable, and increases at approximately
3% per month. Dollars can be exchanged for New Pesos at any bank or exchange
broker in Tijuana. Traveller's Checks are acceptable, but not personal checks.
All stores accept U.S. Dollars.
CREDIT CARDS
Most stores accept International Credit Cards such as MasterCard, Visa and
American Express.
POSTAL SERVICES

without air access.
Post Offices are open from 8am to 4pm. Special services are available only
from 9am to 4pm.
Saturdays, Post Offices are open from 9am to 1pm, and are closed Sundays.
