Approximately 28 million people cross Tijuana's two border gates making it one of the busiest cities in the world. Tijuana was founded in 1889, and it's name comes from the Indian word "Ticuan or Tiguan", which in 'Cochimís' dialect means "Close to the Water". However, another version says that the name comes from a ranch near the region owned by 'Tia Juana' (Aunt Jane).

The proximity to the U.S.A. has without a doubt helped the industry and commercial developement of the city, as a result of it's dynamic and progressive lifestyle. Many visitors may be surprised to find the many first class services and accommodations that it has to offer, among them: two major bullrings (including the only one by the sea in the world), dog racing, a multimillion dollar Cultural Center, arts and crafts stores, four and five star hotels, an International airport, Jai-Alai games and the famed Revolución Avenue filled with imports, arts & crafts shops, restaurants, discos and boutiques.

The Tijuana River Development is considered 'The New Tijuana'; it houses other attractions besides the Cultural Center such as modern shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, sports facilities, government centers, a financial plaza and many more services.
